Blessed Sunday-St Cyprien, Redon Espic, Church in Marquay

SUNDAY, JUNE 3RD, 2012

Another beautiful day, started with rain as we shopped the street market in St. Cyprien.  We were prepared with rain ponchos, so we didn't mind.  This quaint market was different than the larger market in Sarlat.  There were many more farmers market type booths selling homegrown produce.  There were many flower booths selling cut flowers, no doubt from their own gardens.

Some of the beautiful, colorful flowers were displayed in old rusty metal cans.  I have always appreciated that style.  I love the juxtaposition of say a fancy glass chandelier raining light down onto a rustic barn wood table,  Kathy said that the french really know how to appreciate the little things, as do I.

More pictures of the St. Cyprien Market

We ran into our neighbor, Margot, who is a former dutch model. The people that we have met in this area sure have led really interesting lives.  Her husband is a painting restorer who has worked with Picasso's.  She was at the market visiting her friend who has a store specializing in American collectibles such as John Wayne memorabilia, The Simpsons, mid century modern furniture from California and even bobbleheads. She had stopped by our house for a visit the day before, ringing the doorbells.  Yes, doorbells. See the string of bells to the left of the door in picture below.

I love the rustic french country way of life.   During her visit, Margot told us a little about the interesting lives they had led and then described her husband's retirement as trading in working with Picasso's for working in sheep "you know what".

After the market, we went to the Redon Espic Church close to our house and had our own worship service there.  There are no words to describe that experience so I won't try with words.  Here are a few pictures and a couple of videos.

After lunch at McDonalds, we happened upon a flea market.  I couldn't get the car stopped fast enough.  We had just been discussing how in the world we are going to get all the stuff we have purchased back home when we saw it.  Mom just laughs at us.  She knows there's nothing she can do to stop us anyway.

After a coffee break at home, we headed back out for another excursion.  We saw the Eglise Allas, another historic church, then drove by poppies after poppies to Commarque, a castle in ruins, walking down the long slope through the enchanted forest, I like to call it.

Our sweet Mama bringing us coffee while we "weefee"

Then on to another church in Marquay, where 2 kitty cats followed us around.
One of a million beautiful churches

Someone's driveway. So many ideas to take back to Kentucky

Poppy fields around every bend in the road.  And there are many!

One of the few Kentucky looking fields in France

Then back home for ham & (market) cheese and (market) tomato sandwiches.  What a blessed day!
